Great Southwest Council, Scouts BSA

Scouting's mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes. Scouting builds character and provides young people a foundation they can stand on to embrace opportunity, overcome obstacles and make new discoveries in a fun program.

Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA is a year-round program for both boys and girls from the first grade through high school that provides fun, adventure, learning, challenge, and responsibility to help them become the best version of themselves. Young men and women go to exciting places, test themselves, develop important life skills, and have one-of-a-kind adventures that can’t be found anywhere else. The Scouting Slogan is “Be Prepared”. Scouting prepares young people for life. Through successive achievements, boys and girls will learn life lessons including academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, citizenship, fitness, and leadership. Scouting offers experiences that broaden horizons and show young people what’s possible.

Scouting is designed to be experienced outdoors but people don’t realize that we also have many STEM related activities for young men and women with a drive for science and engineering. Scouting’s program encourage a kids natural curiosity and their sense of wonder about out the world around them. They will learn to develop and hone the skills needed to pursue further scientific interest and learning in their academic and professional lives. Scouting is a time-tested program that fosters the spirit of discovery for future innovators.

Cub Scouts have a number of fun STEM related adventures Such as the Engineer or Game Designer and can earn the Cub Scout World Conservation Award or the STEM NOVA award.
